We constructed three compartments behind the tree stump to hold ash from each of the three structures with the intention of sieving it at a later date to recover the glass (and any other interesting material) that had fallen into the ash pits. Unfortunately this was not to be as the tree stump was removed and the ash pits levelled before we tackled this.
