In order to protect the pot furnace from the elements, we covered it with plastic sheeting. For extra frost protection during the winter, we added a lagging of straw-filled bin liners under the plastic sheet. As the plastic kept the superstructure dry, the lagging was not strictly necessary, and, for subsequent coverings in 2006, we did not repeat this.
