Ordering, Postage, Payment, Import Duty & Safety Introduction to Circus Beakers Beakers From Our Wood-fired Furnace
The main frieze depicts four quadrigae (four-horse chariots), three racing, the fourth standing, its charioteer holding the winner's palm and wreath. The names on the frieze above are:
EVTYCHE (Eutychus - 'The Lucky One')
MVSCLOSAE (Pompeius Musclosus - 'The Muscular One')
OLYMPE (Olympus)
POENIX (Phoenix - 'The Carthaginian') who is the winner
The lower frieze consists of fourteen diagonal crosses, perhaps representing crossed palisade stakes, separating standing spectators from competitors.
Fragments of this beaker are in the Vindonissa Museum Brugg, Caister St. Edmund, Norfolk and Carlisle in Cumbria, and our reproduction is based directly upon the virtually complete example from Mainz, now in the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York, and the Caister fragment.
