Mould-blown beakers from our Wood-fired Furnace

We are now making Mould-blown Beakers at our Wood-fired Furnace.
See this page for all of our Wood-fired Furnace vessels.
In particular, see this page for our Circus Beakers and stock levels.

We do not make Athlete Beakers to order
- they are only available from stock on the website.

For stock levels of all of our mould-blown beakers, see this page.

Four pairs of boxers are seen at various stages of combat:

(DIODORUS) defeats (POLYNEIKES), who is judged by an arbiter (the only clothed figure), depicted with his rod;
(ACHILLES) and DAMOCRATES box with their guards raised defensively;
(M)ETRODO(RUS) defeats (OLYMPIAC);
a victorious (PO)LYBICUS adjusts his victor's laurel crown;
IS(IDORUS) throws a punch at (FELIX).

The base section features four more laurel crowns alternating with crossed victory palms, which also appear over the tripod tables separating each half of the vessel.

No complete example of a beaker of this type has yet been discovered, but the example in the Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen represents about two thirds of the vessel. Other fragments from Vindonissa, London and Lausanne enable reconstruction of much of the frieze.

In order to re-create this important vessel we have resorted to supplying the figures of three of the boxers and several of their missing names (SHOWN IN BRACKETS), all of which are based upon common depictions of boxers on mosaics, and known Roman and Greek boxers' names.

Height: 7.1cm   Diameter at rim: 8.4cm   Capacity: 245ml
