Based on a beaker from Kerch in the Crimea (on loan from Woodbrooke College to the City of Birmingham Museum, England).

The inscription (in Greek): EUFRAINOU EFO PAREI ("Rejoice in that at which you are present") is reminiscent of Jesus' words to Judas (Matthew XXVI, 50) in the Greek text of the New Testament, which has caused some scholars to speculate that such cups may be identified with the "Holy Grail" used at the Last Supper. However, this group of vessels dates from no earlier than the middle of the 1st Century AD, and the phrase is a well known Roman salutation.

Similar beakers have been found throughout the Roman Empire from Tunisia to southern Russia. The style of the decoration recalls the work of the 1st Century Roman glassmakers Ennion and Aristeas.
